Publication of a New Prayer Book in French

Dear Fathers,
Dear brothers and sisters,
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan John of Dubna, a new Orthodox Prayer Book has just been published within our Archdiocese.

This Prayer Book presents the customary prayers of the Orthodox faithful according to the Slavic tradition.

In addition to the morning and evening prayers, it includes the prayers in preparation for communion, the Akathist to the Mother of God, the prayers at meals, the prayers of Great Lent and the Paschal Hours.

It also contains the troparia, kontakia and megalynaria for Sundays and feasts, as well as for the great saints (of the universal Church, of the Land of Rus’, and of the Gauls – St Martin of Tours, St Genevieve of Paris…).

It further contains many prayers for the various circumstances of life: some taken from the Euchologion (for travellers, the sick, the departed, prayers of thanksgiving…), others written by saints of the modern era (St Sophrony, St Nikolai Velimirovich…), or the prayer of the Optina elders.

The Prayer Book also includes didactic texts on the meaning of prayer, the manner of praying, rules of piety and of fasting, prostrations, the meaning of the Psalms, the Jesus Prayer… It holds a genuine catechetical and devotional teaching.

Most of the translations come from Father Placide (Deseille); others were translated from Slavonic by the authors of the Prayer Book.

Pocket format: 10 x 15 cm
Sewn binding, hardcover.
Number of pages: 288.

The Prayer Book is on sale at the price of €15.

About the publisher: this Prayer Book is published by the Saint Sabbas Association. With the blessing of the Archdiocese, the association aims to contribute to the transmission of the Slavic Orthodox tradition in the French language. To this end it offers courses in the Typikon and liturgical chant for clergy and lay people, as well as an annual seminar in liturgical formation. It also publishes liturgical and prayer books in French according to the Russian tradition. The translation of these editions, largely in conformity with the work of Father Placide (Deseille), whose quality is widely acknowledged, seeks to contribute to the unification of liturgical texts in the French language.
