Centenary of St Sergius Theological Institute: Looking Back on the First Event, 3 May 2025

The St Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute had the joy of inaugurating its centenary celebrations on Saturday, 3 May 2025, commemorating the start of classes in April 1925.

The day began at 9:00 a.m. with the Divine Liturgy presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan John of Dubna, Chancellor of the Institute, surrounded by several bishops, members of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops of France. On this occasion, Bishop Dimitrios and Bishop Nestor also delivered sermons, which you can listen to again below:

The morning continued with two lectures recounting the opening and the first graduating class of the Institute:

  • “A Century Ago, the Foundation of the Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris”
by Professor Michel Stavrou, Dean of the Institute — Watch the recording

  • “The First Class of Students of St Sergius (1925-1928): In the Service of the Church and of Neighbour”
by Professor Antoine Nivière (University of Lorraine) — Watch the recording

Finally, the participants gathered around a festive meal, in a fraternal atmosphere, to prolong this moment of remembrance and hope.

Further events will punctuate this jubilee year. Stay tuned to follow all the events of the Centenary of the St Sergius Institute.
